Three Piece Female Harmony Group ‘FLO’ Win BRITs Rising Star Award

It’s The First Time The Rising Star Award Has Been Won By An Ensemble.

By Winning Over The Judging Panel of Music Industry Experts Listening To The Competitive BRITs 2023 Rising Star Sessions
There Were A Number of Firsts At This Year’s Awards.
Being Held On A Saturday For The First Time For Instance. Saturday February 11 2023 At London’s O2 arena To Be Precise. The British Record Industry Trust (aka The BRITs Award Ceremony) Is Heavily Involved With The Famous BRIT School In Croydon. And It Has Been Suggested This Is One Reason Organisers Wanted The Event Re-scheduled From A School Night. Too Many of The School’s Student Felt They Were Missing Out Watching The End Result of What The School Was About. Performance. Being Held On At The Weekend Meant They Didn’t Have To Worry About Getting Enough Sleep For School The Next Day.
Reported Dwindling Viewing Figures Apparently Also Inspired The Re-scheduling.
It Is The First Time That A Group Has Won The Rising Star Award. It Is A Re-Incarnation of The Critics’ Choice Award Which Was Won By Subsequent Superstars Such As Adele (2008), Florence & The Machine (2009), Ellie Goulding (2010) Jessie J (2011), Emeli Sande (2012), Sam Smith (2014) Rag ‘n’ Bone Man (2017), Griff (2021) And (Celeste 2020).
‘FLO’ Comprises Sylvia Young Theatre School Alumnus – Stella Quaresma (L), Instagram Singing Sensation Jorja Douglas (C) And Renée Downer Also A Sylvia Young Theatre School Alumnus (R). They Only Got Together As A Band In 2021. Their Influences Include 90’s & 00’s R & B Songstresses Such As TLC, SWV, Destiny’s Child, Faith Evans And Brandy, Which They Got To Know Through Their Mother’s Musical Musings.

They Also Appeared On Jimmy Kimmel’s Late Night Show In America, Later With Jools Holland In The UK And At The Recent MOBO Awards Where They Were Nominated As Newcomers (…And Also Performed On The Night).
Whilst Last Year The BRIT Organisers Introduced New Categories Which The Public Can Vote For Digitally (Using Tiktok & YouTube Primarily), A Panel of Experts From The Music Industry Such Magazine Editors, Songwriters, Producers, Bookers, Radio Executives And Critics, Still Vote For The Rising Star Award. Only British Artists Who Have Not Yet Had One Album or Two Singles Reach The Respective Top 20 Official Charts Are Eligible For The Accolade.

Although Previous Winners Have Performed On The Night of The Ceremony, This Year’s Three Nominated Acts Performed Exclusive ‘Rising Star Live Sessions’ When Their Nominations Were Announced Back In November 2022 (Each Session Featured Here).
On The Night of The Live Broadcast (Saturday 11 February 2023) On ITV They Met Fellow Three Piece Female Group The Sugababes On The Red Carpet.

Her Star Is Indeed Rising, Even If Up Until Now It Has Taken Its Time.

Nia Archives’ Music Is Officially & Fascinatingly Described By The BRITs As “Soft-Hearted, Lo-Fi, Jungle For Introverted Extroverts.”
Her Musical Influences Stem From Her Jamaican Heritage And Include Reggae, Lovers Rock, Gospel And The Pentecostal Church (Which She Used To Attend With Her Family, Where She Grew Up In Leeds). She Moved Out & Made Her Way To Manchester At Just 16 And Joined The Famous Manchester Music Scene, Enjoying Raves, House Parties And Self-Taught Music Production.
