Our Debut Royal Floral Foray Saw Us Chat With Garden Exhibitors, Garden Designers, Competitors, Winners, Workers, Traders, Visitors, Couples, Families And Celebrities. It Was A Joy, Discovery And Eye-Opening Working Social Engagement.
We Were Especially Thrilled To Have Chat With A TV Favourite From Back In The Day, The Evergreen Former Blue Peter Presenter Anthea Turner @antheaturner Who Was Also In Attendance The Year Before (Before We Got Here). This Year We’ve Met Her On Press Day Monday July 4th, Which Is of Course American Independence Day And It Felt Good To Be There As Independent Press Adding A Little Diversity To The Proceedings And Seeing What We Could See From A Diversity Perspective.
We Saw Lots of Lovely Things, Met Lots of Lovely People And Had Some Great Interviews. And We Are Thrilled To Be Able To Share Them With You In A Number of Different Articles. We Are Most Grateful To The RHS Head of Press And The Media Team There For Including Us Amongst The Press Throng. Here’s A Little Snippet Into How We Got On. We’ll Be Uploading Our Articles Across The Coming Months To Help Keep The Joy of Our First Visit Alive And A Feeling And Sense of Summer Going On As We Look Forward To It Coming Back Around Next Year.
Our Interview With Anthea Was An Inspiration Because She Was As Lovely, Natural And Insightful As The Day Is Long. In The World of Celebrity To See Her Natural Beauty, Blending In With The Beauty of Nature And The Positive Vibes Was Frankly A Refreshing Change. The YMCA (The Young Men’s Christian Association) Published The YPlan Exercise Book In 1990 Designed To Be A Guide To Taking Short Regular Exercise Programmes Whereever You Are And Especially For People Taking Temporary Refugee In Their Community Accomodation.
It Was Distributed By Virgin Media Group And As The Poster Girl For The Initiative Anthea An Image of Health & Fitness Developed Around Anthea Which Has Stayed With Her Ever Since.
Up To Today She Day She Is Associated With Holland & Barrett, Various Beauty Products, Vitamins And Minerals, Lotions And Potions And Well-Being Activites Such As Spa Days At Champneys.
In 1994 She Joined ITV’s Breakfast TV And Stayed Until 1996, She Simultaneously Presented The National Lottery Draw Live And Was of The Highest Earning Female TV Presenters At The Time. Children’s TV, Supporting A Children’s Charity, Encouraging The Nation To Stay Youthful And A Regular Contributor To The World of Presentation And Entertainment, Despite The Ups & Downs of Her Career Anthea Turner Is Notably Resilient And Consistent.

Anthea Turner Got Her Big Break On BBC Radio 1 In The 80s And Eventually Dated One of The DJs And Married Another One Years Later In The 90s. She Presented The Station’s Flagship Music Show Top of The Pops From 88 To 91′.
And Then Came Blue Peter From 92 To 94′. That Particular Association With The BBC Is One She’s Never Lived Down As The Show Is So Generationally Popular And Its Presenters Often Become Cultural Icons By Association.

In That Context She Explains That The First Black Girl She Ever Met Was Through A Friend of Her Mother’s Who Was A Teacher That Went To Teach In South Africa And Ended Up Adopting A Little Girl In Care Over There. Anthea Was 7 And The Girls Became Friends. As She Says “It Was All Perfectly Normal. So Where Does Prejudice Come From Because Kids Don’t Have It. Nobody’s Born Like That”?

In Fact, Personal DNA Tests To Discover One’s Cultural Heritage Are All The Rage At The Moment And We Suggest She Treats Herself To One As Everyone Knows “Black Don’t Crack”. That Is Due To The Black Community Rigorously Moisturising Daily In Order To Look After Our Skin Which Would Look Dry And Flaky Otherwise. The Extra Melanin, Provides Extra Protection From Aging And Yet Also Makes It Very Demanding In Terms of Moisturisation Requirements. So We Have To Look After It. And In Return It Ages More Slowly And Looks After Us).

Anthea With Big Hair 80s Style!
In Terms of Her Well-Being She’s Maintained A Trim Healthy Lifestyle From Then Till Now.
And In That Sense She’s Set A Great Example.
Today She’s Still Top of The Tops’ At 60 Plus. And Over 30 Years On.
But In That Sense It Hasn’t All Been Plain Sailing. In The 90s Her Career Took A Tumble After Her Golden Girl Image Was Shattered After An Affair With Her Then Best Friend’s Husband (Who Had Daughters From Within That Marriage). The Scandalised Lovers Did Ultimately Marry Each Other. But They Later Divorced. Ironically or Predictably, After He Cheated On Her! Either Way At The Time The Affair Caused A Media Scandal From Which It Took Her Years To Recover. This Included Writing A Memoir Called Fools Rush In Which Had Mixed Results.
She Subsequently Delved Into The World of Reality TV Which Saw Stints on Programmes Such Celebrity Big Brother (When Chris Eubank & Vanessa Feltz Were Also In The House – Namely 2000. @chriseubanksnr @vanessafeltzofficial), Hell’s Kitchen (Along Side The New Husband, In 2009), Dancing On Ice 2013, Celebrity First Dates In 2013 (The Charity Version On Behalf of Stand Up To Cancer), And Skating On Ice In 2015. Was Was Back On The BBC With Celebrity Antiques Road Trip In 2017 And Took Part In Channel 5’s Celebs In Solitary In 2018.
Testimony To That Recovery Is The Fact That She Has Written A Number of Books On Various Subjects. Including – The Art of Domesticity (Perfect Housewife In 2006 Which Accompanied A BBC Three TV Series About House Cleaning & Maintenance; And In The Same Year The Former Top of The Pops Presenter Appeared On The BBC Music Panel Show Never Mind The Buzzcocks). Surviving Divorce. Well-Being & Ageing Well.
Happily On Top of That She Remains Very Close To Her Step-Daughters And Is Shortly Due To Attend The Marriage of One of Them. (This Even Though She Never Had Any Biological Children of Her Own Despite Trying With Her Now Divorced Husband. Something She Has Had To Reconcile Herself With) .
If Anything Her Story Is A Powerful One of A Rising Star, A Fall From Grace, The Road To Recovery, Redeemption, And Resilience. After All, Who In This World Can Cast The First Stone?
To Fix A Situation You Have To Acknowledge That It Exists. Sort It. Own It. Move On. Anthea Is A Postive Example of That. Some People Can’t Even Do Step One. So Respect To Her For Doing It All!

“So I Do Exercise. Not Stupidly. I’m Not Going To Go And Run Around Too Much Because I Like My Knees. So I Have A Little Bit of A Run. Not A Huge Amount. And To Massage My Heart I’m A Great Believer In Stretching. If You Look At What Animals Do They Don’t Watch Videos. They Stretch Every Morning. They Move Their Body To Its Optimum Level Daily. They Run. They Roll Around. And They Keep Themselves Fit By Not Having Sugar. We All Like A Sweet. We All Like A Cake. But Just Not Everyday. I Think We All Actually Know The Answer. We Need To Listen To Ourselves.”

AT: Absolutely. I Met Mark About Three Years Ago Now. And I Knew It Was Going To Work Because In Lockdown (When You Were Setting Up This Magazine) We Were Dating And Had To Make A Decision Where We Were Going To Live. We’d Spent A Huge Amount of Time Together And If You Can Spend 3 Months Living Together 24/7 Then I Think It’s Going To Work.
TO.P: Wow! And That’s A beautiful Ring I See On Your Finger So Are You Engaged? Married?
AT: Yes. We Are Engaged And We Will Be Getting Married. We Got Plans. Various Plans. We Were Planless Because Lockdown Made It Difficult. And Then Mark’s Mum Passed Away. And My Mum Passed Away As Well. There Were Lots of Family Considerations. But We Do Intend To Do Something Sooner […Rather Than Later].

AT: We Met On A Blind Date. I Was Too Scared To Go On A Blind Date So I Made My Friend Come With Me, Who’d Set Me Up On A Blind Date, With Her Boyfriend At The Time, So We All Went Out On A Blind Date.
