TheOrator.Press Magazine Was Thrilled To Be Amongst The Accredited Press At This Year’s Royal Hampton Court Garden Festival Courtesy of The Royal Horticultural Society @the_rhs For The First Time Since We Launched In 2020. Our Debut Royal Floral Foray Saw Us Chat With Garden Exhibitors, Garden Designers, Competitors, Winners, Workers, Traders, Visitors, Couples, Families And Celebrities. It Was A Joy, Discovery And Eye-Opening Working Social Engagement.

We Were Especially Thrilled To Have Chat With A TV Favourite From Back In The Day, The Evergreen Former Blue Peter Presenter Anthea Turner @antheaturner Who Was Also In Attendance The Year Before (Before We Got Here). This Year We’ve Met Her On Press Day Monday July 4th, Which Is of Course American Independence Day And It Felt Good To Be There As Independent Press Adding A Little Diversity To The Proceedings And Seeing What We Could See From A Diversity Perspective.

We Saw Lots of Lovely Things, Met Lots of Lovely People And Had Some Great Interviews. And We Are Thrilled To Be Able To Share Them With You In A Number of Different Articles. We Are Most Grateful To The RHS Head of Press And The Media Team There For Including Us Amongst The Press Throng. Here’s A Little Snippet Into How We Got On. We’ll Be Uploading Our Articles Across The Coming Months To Help Keep The Joy of Our First Visit Alive And A Feeling And Sense of Summer Going On As We Look Forward To It Coming Back Around Next Year.

Our Interview With Anthea Was An Inspiration Because She Was As Lovely, Natural And Insightful As The Day Is Long. In The World of Celebrity To See Her Natural Beauty, Blending In With The Beauty of Nature And The Positive Vibes Was Frankly A Refreshing Change. Amongst Our Executive Team Are Those That Remember Anthea From Back In The Day When She Presented The Clothes Show Live, And Having Attended The Event And Seen Her In Action Way Back Then Figured She’d Still Be Approachable, Bubbly, And Chatty. And Happily She Was. We Explained Why We Started TheOrator.Press Magazine And Our Drive For Media Diversity & Inclusion, And Having Listened, We Can See That She Genuinely Gets It. (Whist The LGBT Community Have Gaydar, The Black Community Has Racedar).

In fact She Happily Shares With Us The News of Her Fellow Former Blue Peter Presenter Diane-Louise Jordan Producing A Series About Black People Who Helped Build Britain, Wherein She Encourages Black & White People To Talk Freely, Openly And Honestly About How Things Were Back Then @themakingofblackbritain  She Suggests That The Project And Our Magazine TheOrator.Press Might Share A Common Interest. In That Context She Explains That The First Black Girl She Ever Met Was Through A Friend of Her Mother’s Who Was A Teacher That Went To Teach In South Africa And Ended Up Adopting A Little Girl In Care Over There.  Anthea Was 7 And The Girls Became Friends. As She Says “It Was All Perfectly Normal. So Where Does Prejudice Come From Because Kids Don’t Have It. Nobody’s Born Like That”?

At 62 Anthea Turner Is Looking Good. Youthful.  Happy. And Much Younger Than Her Years. To.P Asks Her How Come?  She Reveals She Uses Coconut Oil As Advised By Her Black Friends. And We Have To Say It’s Working!

In Fact, Personal DNA Tests To Discover One’s Cultural Heritage Are All The Rage At The Moment And  We Suggest She Treats Herself To One As Everyone Knows “Black Don’t Crack”. That Is Due To The Black Community Rigorously Moisturising Daily In Order To Look After Our Skin Which Would Look Dry And Flaky Otherwise. The Extra Melanin, Provides Extra Protection From Aging And Yet Also Makes It Very Demanding In Terms of Moisturisation Requirements. So We Have To Look After It. And In Return It Ages More Slowly And Looks After Us).

AT: “I’m A Great Believer In Your Health Is In Your Hands”.

“Largely”.

“Not All The Time”.

“But A Lot To Do With Good Health Is To Do With Us. It’s Very Simple. There’s No Magic Cure. It’s About What You Eat And About Moving. That’s The Exlixir. It’s Also Saying No To A Lot of Things. Unfortunately, That We’d Like To Eat.

“So I Do Exercise. Not Stupidly. I’m Not Going To Go And Run Around Too Much Because I Like My Knees. So I Have A Little Bit of A Run. Not A Huge Amount. And To Massage My Heart I’m A Great Believer In Stretching. If You Look At What Animals Do They Don’t Watch Videos. They Stretch Every Morning. They Move Their Body To Its Optimum Level Daily. They Run. They Roll Around. And They Keep Themselves Fit By Not Having Sugar. We All Like A Sweet. We All Like A Cake. But Just Not Everyday. I Think We All Actually Know The Answer. We Need To Listen To Ourselves.”

TO.P:  Very Well Said. And You Are Glowing.  Could That Be A Love Glow?

AT: Absolutely. I Met Mark About Three Years Ago Now. And I Knew It Was Going To Work Because In Lockdown (When You Were Setting Up This Magazine) We Were Dating And Had To Make A Decision Where We Were Going To Live.  We’d Spent A Huge Amount of Time Together And If You Can Spend 3 Months Living Together 24/7 Then I Think It’s Going To Work.

TO.P:  Wow! And That’s A beautiful Ring I See On Your Finger So Are You Engaged? Married?

AT: Yes. We Are Engaged And We Will Be Getting Married. We Got Plans. Various Plans. We Were Planless Because Lockdown Made It Difficult. And Then Mark’s Mum Passed Away. And My Mum Passed Away As Well. There Were Lots of Family Considerations.  But We Do Intend To Do Something Sooner […Rather Than Later].

TO.P: Can  We Ask How You Two Met?

AT: We Met On A Blind Date. I Was Too Scared To Go On A Blind Date So I Made My Friend Come With Me, Who’d Set Me Up On A Blind Date, With Her Boyfriend At The Time, So We All Went Out On A Blind Date.

You Were Talking Earlier About Pioneers (In Relation To Diane-Louise Jordan’s Archive Project @themakingofblackbritain For Instance) And You Are One of The Pioneers Yourself. You’ve Always Looked After Yourself, You Were A Star In Who Dares Wins And You’ve Proven Age In No Excuse For Not Looking After Yourself.

We Wrote A TV News Review Last Year About The Masked Dancer And Made The Point That The Ladies Taking Part Included Kelly Brook @iamkb, Zoe Ball @zoetheball, Tamzin Outhwaite @glamzin, And Bonnie Langford @thebonnielangford And How Well They Did. And The Production Company Argonon Were Great To Have Included Them. You Yourself Did The SAS Style Training TV Programme Recently, ‘Channel 4’s Who Dare’s Wins’. AT: Well We Are Different To Our Mothers Aren’t We?  In As Much As We Haven’t Gone Into The Old Uniform. It Used To Be That As Soon As You Were Forty That Was It And You Wore Specific Clothes, Had Specific Hair Styles, If We Think of Our Mothers. And Actually We Haven’t. We’ve Bucked The Trend. We Are The Pioneers. I Think If You Were Born In The 1960s (I Was Born In 1960) I Think We Have Been Trailblazers For A Huge Amount. And It Is Important. I Was Talking To Anne Diamond Who Is Another Trailblazer, Born In The 50s, And We Were Just Chit-Chatting, And She Said You Know The Most Important Thing Is, “We’re Still Here And We’re Still Doing It. Whatever It Is, We’re Still Doing It.”

And I Think There Is Now The Wise Woman Phase Which People Are Starting To Acknowledge, Which Is We Have Knowledge Which You Can Only Have If You Have Lived A Life.

TO.P: Well It’s Interesting You Say That Because The Other Thing That Is Going On Now Is A Big Debate About Menopause. The Government Has Decided That They Don’t Want To Lose The Female Workforce, Or A Substantial Proportion of It, Because of What You’ve Just Outlined, They’ve Finally Woken Up To That Reality. AT: I Was In @Homebase The Other Day, I Was Scouring Around And I Needed Help, And I Saw A Woman And Thought Right She’s The One For Me. I Thought She’s Not A Girl, She’s A Woman.  She Will Know The Answer To Exactly What I Want. And She Did!

TO.P: So Are You Part of That Whole Campaign Regarding Menopause Awareness?

AT: I Think Obviously I’m Well Through That, Just A Little Bit Older. I Think On The HRT It’s A Fantastic Thing And I Have Taken It Myself And Continue To Take It (In A Lesser Amount Than I Did). However It Is Not All About Taking A Tablet. It Is About You Looking After Your Own Health And Mental Health As Well. And Unfortunately There’s Only One Person Who Can Actually Do That. And That’s You.

Anthea Makes A Point About The Percentage of People In Doctors Waiting Rooms Who Are There Because of Lifestyle Choices And The Need To Ask Why, In Terms of Circumstances, Those People Have Made Those Choices In Terms of Drinking, Smoking, Eating Too Much of The Wrong Food And Not Moving. 

And Then It Becomes A Mental Problem. People Lose Their Confidence And When You Lose Your Confidence You Don’t Feel Sparky Do You, You Don’t Feel Like Looking After Yourself.  We Have A lot of Health Problems In This Country And It Is Very Easy To Say Our Health Is In Our Hands But It’s Not Easy To Say If You Are Feeling Down on Your Luck.

TO.P: And So It’s Good That That Government Is Doing This Menopause Programme (Centred Around Women Staying Within The Workforce And Removing Stigma & Taboo Around Female Reproductive Issues), Don’t You Think?

AT: Yes!

The Great Outdoors & The Glow of Love

TO.P: Talking of Well-Being, One of The Ways To Get A Sense of  Well-Being Is To Be Out In Nature, And Here You Are Today. What Made You Come Along Today And How Are You Finding It?

AT: I Live In The City. I Don’t Actually Have A Garden. I Have Lots of Pots Around And Balconies And Things Like That. But I Love The Flower Shows Whether It Be Chelsea, Whether It Be Here, Whether It Be Taton Park, Which Is Up In Cheshire. You Just Look Around And Everybody’s Smiling, Everybody’s Happy. It Obviously Is A Lovely Day. People Are Happy And Smiling And Joyful Because They Are Outside, In This Glorious Environment And Looking At Flowers And Who Can Be Sad When You Look At The Head of A Beautiful Rose or A Peony.

TO.P: You’re Looking Amazing, You’re Feeling Amazing. You’ve Got A Great Love Life Blossoming With A Marriage On The Horizon, What’s Next For You Coming Up And Going Forward. What Are You Doing or Would You Like To Be Doing?

AT: I Mentioned Anne Diamond Earlier And We’re Working On A Project Together. Tomorrow I’m On GB News. And I’ve A New Book Which I’m Promoting ‘How To Age Well’. I Have Got To That Point In My Life Where I Do A Collection of Things That Are ‘Me’ A Production Company And I Have Put Together A Great New Format Which Looks At My Life And Experience Apart From Me Just Being A TV Presenter.

Anthea Said She Couldn’t Tell Us Anymore About That Project At This Stage But Suffice To Say We Will Be Keeping In Touch With Her And Look Forward To Bringing You A Follow Up. We Did Not Know When We Approached Her That Her Book ‘How To Age Well’ Was Out, So We Are Thrilled That Our Powers of Perception In Choosing To Speak To Her Were Spot On. We’d Imagine That Book Is Well Worth A Look. After All  She Does Look As Fresh As A Daisy And Refreshingly Natural, As Is Her Personality.

We Later Spot Her Sitting By The Water’s Edge On The Royal Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival Grounds, Enjoying A Picnic Hamper From Fortnum & Mason @fortnums, The Queen’s Grocer. They Were Among Those Providing Refreshments At The Event. This Lady Loves A Picnic As She Declared Last Summer On Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch Where She Spoke About The Joys of Staycations & Picnics @packedlunch. Here She Enjoyed The Fortnum’s Picnic With Her New Finance Mark, With Whom She Has Fast Approaching Wedding Plans. Also Proving That One Can Still Find Love At Any Age And It Pays To Stay In Shape.
