Richie Started His Drifters Tribute Band ‘Soul Kinda Wonderful’ 10 Years Ago Aged 45 After A Career In Teaching. And Since They’ve Won The Industry Award For No.1 Drifters Tribute Band Three Times.

It’s Been An Education. A Good One. Our Teacher Has Been The Very Engaging Mr Richie Sampson.The Former Secondary School Science Teacher Is Handsome, Humble And Now Having The Time of His Life “Living The Dream” Since Leaving School.
We Recently Kept Him In Detention For An Hour or So In June 2023 And Then Followed Up With A Special Review of One of His Performances In August, At The Legendary London Music Venue Boisdale In Canary Wharf.
He Gets An A+ From Us. This Scholar, Performer And Student of Life Is In A Real Class of His Own. And We Say Thank You Sir (Oops) For Teaching Us A Thing or Two, Helping Us Learn, And Being An Inspiration.
He’s Only In His Mid-50s And So Far His Life Has Been Remarkable. In A Number of Ways He Is Exceptional. There Are So Many Horror Stories of Racism In Education (Particuarly Well Highlighted By Steve Mcqueen’s Small Axe Series On BBC1), Richie’s Journey Through The British Education System Was A Success Because They Actually Deemed Him Bright And Sent Him To Grammer School.
Subsequently He Became A Teacher. He Himself Then Introduced A Touch More Cultural Diversity And Positivity Within The School System. A System In Which Budding Architect Stephen Lawrence Was Amongst His Students. Students Who Subsequently Took Part In A Peaceful Demonstration After He Was Murdered. And After Stephen’s Murder Mr Sampson Chose To Leave The Teaching Profession And Become A Soul Singer And Embrace A Life Amongst Touring Musicians. And There’s The Small Matter of Him Originally Come From Dudley And Being The Former Neighbour of Sir Lenny Henry.
It’s Tuesday June 20th 2023. Tomorrow, Wednesday June 21st At 4pm, Former Science Teacher And Lead Singer Richie Sampson Flies Out With His Band ‘Soul Kinda Wonderful’ On A Ten Day Tour of Cyprus. And The Day After That It’s Thursday June 22nd The Official 75th Anniversary of Windrush.
The Windrush Anniversary And The Associated Windrush Generation Commemorates The Fact That The First British Ship Arrived Back From The Caribbean In 1948, At Tilbury Docks, Essex, With British Citizens Invited To Britain From The Colonized West Indies; And They Went On Help Re-Build Britain As Well As Build Their Own Afro-Caribbean British Families In The Country. The British Government Had Asked Them Come To Britain To Help Rebuild The Nation’s Infrastructure Following The End of The Second World War A Few Years Earlier. And So They Came.
Although He Flies Out To Cyprus Tomorrow, Richie Wants To Get Involved In Contributing To The Windrush History Story, Because His Journey To This Point Has Been Most Unique And He Feels It’s Important To Share It. Especially As It Includes A Pivotal Moment In British Black Educational, Social, And Policing History.
