TheOrator.Press Back Page. The Sport Port: Real Madrid Lodge Complaint After Another Referee Report Failure To Record Racist Abuse At A La Liga Following Repeated Racist Attacks On Black Players Including Vinicius Jnr. June 2024

In Response The Royal Federation of Spanish Football Issue A Statement In Support…

of The Referee!

Society Needs To Keep Blowing The Whistle On Racism In Order To Keep Making Progress!

Continued Inadequate, Inappropriate And Ineffective Responses Like This From Football Authorities To Racist Incidents Is Why Racism In Football Continues – Despite Various Football Anti-Racism Campaigns.
Hence A New Initiative Is On The Horizon, Focused On Supporting A Greater Diversity of Referees. Hopefully This New Campaign Can Learn From Others That Have Gone Before It And Will Prove Even More Successful.

Examples of Racial Prejudice, Discrimination, Inequality And Hate Are Not Exclusive To Spain. Nor Football.
It’s Global. And It’s Numerous Sports.
To Combat It (…And The Denialism of Racism) There Needs To Be More Transparent, Honest, Accurate And Progressive Conversations.

And
As Ever, History Plays Its Part.

The Conversation About Racism Against Players Is Getting A Little Bit Old. Everyone Knows It’s There. Everyone Knows How The Players Feel About It.

There’s Not Enough Conversation Around What The Authorities Are Doing For Example, To Make The Sanctions More Consistent.

The Solution Is To Do What Is Done In Easterm Europe. Close The Stadiums. Then Fans Will Start Making Other Fans Accountable. And Say “Well Why Should I Not Come To The Game Because of You.”

That’s When It Starts Getting Taken More Seriously Because At The Moment We’re Talking So Much About The Problem And Not The Cure. I Think That Need To Be The Focus Now.

Thierry Henry Previously Highlighted The Same Issue In The Spring of The Same Year. In March 2021 He Announced That He Would Be Leaving Social Media, Despite Having 2m Followers. It Was A Protest Against The Racism And Inaction By Tech Companies To Help Combat it.

@ugomonye Former England Rugby Player, Turned Commentator, Attended The Game And Later Provided A Firsthand Eye Witness Account of The Euro 2020 Missed Penalty Kick Violence And Racism That Followed. (incidentally The Tournament Was Postponed And Played In July 2021 Due to Covid).

(3.15) Wembly Violence & Racism Euros 2021: Monye Gives Firsthand Account

“It’s Just Not What We Stand For” Said Manager Gareth Southgate Who Confirmed Alot of The Abuse Had Come From Abroad. But Not All of It.

Southgate Can Empathise Very As Well As He Suffered His Own Personal Missed Penalty Nightmare In Euro 96′ When England Were Subsequently Defeated By Germany. The Spectular Comeback He Eventually Made, Culminating In Becoming England Manager, Is The Result of A Long Road of Support, Self-Believe And Positivity.

The Empathy With Which He Comforted His Players On The Pitch Is Reminiscent of How He Was Comforted By The Late Terry Venables, England Manager At The Time. Such Empathy Is A Personal, Professional And Management Skill And As Essential Tool In The Fight Against Racism

Italy Played Rough In The Euros 2020 Final. Arguably More Robust Refereeing To Instill And Ensure More Discipline Throughout The Match, With Appropriate Use of Red Cards, Yellow Cards, Corner Kicks, Free Kicks And Penalty Kicks Might Have Seen A Different Result. That’s Something We Will Now Never Know. What We Do Now Know Is The Names And Faces of Some of The Racist Abusers After The Police Were Called In, Arrests Were Made And Convictions Reported In The Press. Amen!

Italain Defender Chiellini Has Now Retired And Subsequently Admitted That He Fouled Bukayo Saka Deliberately (By Dangerously Yanking His Shirt And Pulling Him Backwards To The Ground). He Only Received A Yellow Card For That. It Should Have Been A Red. Especially As The Referee (Bjorn Kuipers) Was Well Positioned To See, Sense And Access All That It Was, For What It Was, As It Happened (Just Before Full Time). Jorginho’s Extra Time Foul On Grealish Was A Gruesome Shin Stamp Which Left Grealish Grimmancing In Pain. But Again Referee Punches Were Pulled And England Were Denied The Red Card Sanction That Italy Deserved.

The Italains Were Inevitably Emboldened By This Discriminatory Refeering, Which Had Devastating Consequences For Englands Young Players, The Team And The Country. Indeed So Emboldened Was Chiellini He Has Since Named His Euro 2020 Foul His Most Inconic Career Moment. Together With His Confession It’s Evidence of The Need For Change In Order To Preserve The Integrity of The Game.

The Issue Is Not That England Lost, But That They Lost With The Help of Unfair Refeering. It’s A Serious Issue. And Such Discrimination Needs To Stop. Referees Should Be Unbiased. As Euro 24 Looms Increased Diversity In Refeering Is A Welcome Initiative.

And Then Came Vinicius Jr Three Year’s Later. Also Crying As He Highlighted The Devastating Impact of Football Being Infected By The Disease of Racism.

Football

With Historical Evidence Proving That Repeat Referee Mis-Reporting, In-Action And Discrimination Has Been Perpetrated Time And Again And That Those Currently At The Top of Football’s Executive Hierachy Are Still Failing To Properly Deal With It, It Is Clear To See Why The Horror of Racism Is Taking So Long To Be Empathetically, Emphatically, And Effectively Eradicated.

Referees or Other Officials Who Expose Themselves To Be Power Abusers, Incapable, Unwilling or Corrupt When It Comes To Transparent, Accurate, Honest Report-Making Regarding Racist Behaviours (Including Their Own) Should Be Immediately Dispatched And Not Allowed To Officiate Any Other Match Ever Again, In Any Country. In Any Sport. At Anytime, Anywhere!

After Such A Successful AFCON 2023 Perhaps Another Solution Maybe For Black Players, Fans And Allies To Focus More On African Football (And Other African Sports And African Sporting Bodies And Organisations And Federations) And Stop Putting The Black Pound In The Pockets of Racists, Who, It Would Appear, Are Self-Evidently Not Only Sometimes Found On The Terraces But Elsewhere Too Within Sport.

@Les Ferdinand Makes An Excellent & Telling Point During An Appearance on The Simon Jordan Podcast By William Hill. Similar To The Point Made By Thierry Henri Below He Observes That “They Cared Ore About Stop The Super League Than Stopping Racism”

Racism Remains A Problem In Sport. And Sadly In So Many Different Sports, Including But Not Limited To Football, F1 Motor-Racing, Rugby, Cricket, Gymnastics, Swimming, And Basketball, As So Many Examples, Testimonies And Reports Have Highlighted In These Areas.

Clearly Sporting Authorities Are Failing To Get Real About The Root of The Problem. Evidently Rotten Racist Referees Are Clearly Not Being Dealt With Properly Professionally. Nor Other Corrupt Officials. Efforts Are Being Made To Establish New More Inclusive, Diverse, Equitable And Accountable, Effective, Just, Judicial, And Transparent Sporting Systems To Deal With The Problem.

Interestingly, After A Number of Disturbing Racist Incidents In The Early 2000’s, Madrid Lost Its Bid To Host The 2012 Olympics. Now, In The Wake The Rubiales Affair, The Royal Federation For Espanola Fubol (The RFEF) Turned Its Attitude Around And Withdrew Its Initial Support For Rubiales In August 2023 After FIFA Eventually Instigated Disciplinary Action Against Him And Suspended Him. This Was Against A Backdrop of Huge Support For His Victim Jenni Hermoso. And Also Its Quest To Host The 2030 World Cup.
