TheOrator.Press Bond Movie 25 Special ~ November 2021

We Take A Look Back At How Brocolli & Bond Made It To Movie No.25 As 007 As We Know Him Says Goodbye In ‘No Time To Die’

Notwithstanding That The First Ever Bond Movie ‘Dr. No’ Was Released In October 1962, This Autumn (2021), Burlington Arcade, In London’s Piccadilly, Has Set Up A State of The Art Installation Celebrating 60 Years of Bond’s Incarnation (In Anticipation)

The Connection With The Arcade Includes Three of Bond’s Various High End Brand Partners Based There For Many Years And Two More Joining The Arcade Imminently

Crockett & Jones (The Shoemaker @crockettandjones_official), Globe-Trotter (The Luxury Luggage Company @globe_trotter1897) & N.Peal (The Cashmere Clothing Outfitters @npealcashmere ). Plus Omega (The Timepiece Makers @omega And Bollinger (The Champagne House @champagne_bollinger

The Installation Also Marks The Release of ‘No Time To Die’ Bond Movie No.25 @007

From It’s First Outing of Bond In 1962 To It’s 60th Anniversary In 2022 And 25 Official Bond Movies Later 007 Got Better & Better

Connery = All 6s & 7s

(Sadly “Never Say Never Again” Starring Sean Connery Is Not Included In The Official Eon Count As It Was Made Outside of The Brocolli & Eon Production Team. So Although Connery Made 7 Bond Films Only 6 Officially Count As Far As The Eon Production Team Are Concerned. And As The Italian-American Film Producer Chubby Brocolli (Above Left With Bond Author Ian Flemming, Bond Actor Sean Connery, And Bond Co. Producer Harry Saltzman) Is Survived By His Daughter Barbara Brocolli (Above Right With Co. Producer Michael G. Wilson) The Brocolli Family Remain In Charge of The Franchise At This Critical, Monumental, Historical Point In Time).

Moore = 7

Craig = 5

Brosnan = 4

Dalton = 2

Lazenby = 1

Total = Bond 25

The Brocolli Motto Is ‘Adapt Or Die’ And This Is Why Bond Made It To No.25. Now At A Turning Point, Diversity, Equality And Inclusion Have Been Allowed To Play Their Part. Because Eon Indeed Know, This Is No Time To Die!

Sean Connery

[Numerically 7 – But – Officially 6]

DR NO. ~ SEAN CONNERY/URSULA ANDRES – 1962

(October 5 Is International Bond Day In Commemoration of The Ocassion)

FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE ~ SEAN CONNERY/DANIELA BIANCHI – 1963

GOLDFINGER ~ SEAN CONNCERY/HONOUR BLACKMAN (AS PUSSY GALORE) – (WITH SPECTRE IN THE BACKGROUND) – 1964

THUNDERBALL ~ SEAN CONNERY/CHRISTINE AUGER – 1965

In I967 There Were Two Bond Movies. One The Genuine Article. And One A Spoof By A Rival Production Company. The Spoof Meant There Were Two Movies And Three James Bonds. Sean Connery As The Genuine Article. And David Niven And  Peter Sellers As Two Spoof Bonds In One Spoof Movie.

YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE ~ SEAN CONNERY/AKIKO WAKABAYASHI – 1967

And Casino Royale1967 David Niven & Peter Sellers

The 1967 Casino Royale Spoof Came About As The Famous Bond Film Producers, The Brocolli Family, Lost The Exclusive Film Rights Temporarily. And So Another Production Team Made Casino Royale As A Spoof Comedy As Opposed To The Usual Action Movie. It Wasn’t Until 2006, After The Brocolli’s Sorted Out The Legal Wrangling That They Were Able To Make The Daniel Craig Version In Which He Made His Bond Debut And New Bond History. Writer And Former Secret Service Operative Ian Flemming Had Written The Spy Thriller Novels In The 1950s And

DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER – SEAN CONNERY/JILL ST JOHN – 1971

(Connery Came Back In 1971 After Four Years Away)

NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN – SEAN CONNERY/KIM BASSINGER – Rowan Atkinson & Edward Fox – 1983

(Connery Came Back Yet Again In 1983 After 12 Years Away – Hence It Was Called “Never Say Never Again”.) At 12 Years Away It Took Him Three Times As Long As The First Time To Come Back.

(1983 Was Yet Another Year (The First Being 1967) Where There Were Two Bond Movies Out At The Same Time With Different Actors Playing James Bond.

Roger Moore Was Simultaneously In Octopussy With Maud Adams1983).

Again It Was Due To Legal Wrangling.

This Time Under Slightly Different Circumstances.

By 1983 Irish Filmmaker Kevin McClory Had Acquired The Rights To Make A Bond Movie Without Original Bond Producer Chubby Brocolli.

McClory  Legally Maintained That As He Had Previously Helped Ian Fleming (The Acknowledged Writer of The Bond Movies) Develop The Bad Guy Character Ernst Stavro Blofeld In The Book Thunderball In 1961.

Although The Movie Thunderball Came Out In 1965, McClory, Brocolli & Saltzmann (Brocolli’s Original Co Producer)  Agreed To A Legal Moritorium Preventing Further Development of The Character For A Decade After That.

Connery Meanwhile Was To Fall Out With Brocolli Over Movie Money Disagreements And Brocolli Had Also Split With Harry Saltzman, Over Other Money Issues.

When That Moritorium Expired McClory Was Feeling Empowered And Set About Developing The Bad Guy Blofeld’s Character Even Further. And In The Process He Made Connery An Offer He Couldn’t Refuse!

The Offer Include A $5mActing Fee, Casting Approval, Script Oversight, And A Share of The Profits. Plus It Presented A Chance For Connery To Get One Over On Brocolli (Who He Felt Had Done Him Out of Lots of Money).

And So The So-Called “Battle of The Bonds” Was Born.

And “Never Say Never Again” Came Out In 1983 With Sean Connery – And  – In The Same Year Octopussy Came Out In 1983 With Roger Moore.

Showing Some Class Amongst All Ugliness, The Two Actors Agreed Not To Publicly Disrespect Each Other Nor Fight Amongst Themselves. They Left It All To The Studios & The Movie Men.

Suffice To Say It Was To Be Connery’s Swansong. “Never Say Never Again” Took $ 160m

And Octopussy Took $182m. 007 Is All About The Figures!

So Although Numerically Sean Connery Made 7 007 Bond Movies, Including “Never Say Never Again” – That Last One Was Not With The Brocolli Eon Production Team And So It Is Not Officially Included As Being Part of Their Movie Making Machine. Hence They Only Credit Connery With 6 of  Their Bond Films.

In Turn The 2022 Milestone of 25 Bond Movies Is Exactly That As Far As They Are Concerned, 25, And Not 26 (Which It Would Otherwise Be)! Well – 27 If You Include The Spoof Casino Royale Also Made By Someone Else (Which of Course They Don’t)!

Roger Moore

[Numerically & Officially 6]

LIVE & LET DIE ~ ROGER MOORE/JANE SEYMOUR – 1973

THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN ~ CHRISTOPHER LEE/BRITT EKLAND – YAPAT (WITH HAT) – 1974

THE SPY WHO LOVE ME ~ ROGER MOORE/BARBARA BACH – 1977

MOONRAKER ~ ROGER MOORE/LOIS CHILLES – 1979

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY ~ ROGER MOORE/CAROL BOUQUET/TOPOL-FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (THEME TUNE SHEENA EASTON) – 1981

OCTOPUSSY ~ ROGER MOORE/MAUD ADAMS – 1983

(1983 Was Yet Another Year Where There Were Two Bond Movies Out At The Same Time With Different Actors Playing Bond.

Sean Connery Was Simultaneously In Never Say Never Again.

Again It Was Due To Legal Wrangling (Just As It Had Been In 1967 – When There Were Two Bond Movies Out – But Neither of Them Had Starred Roger Moore As They Were Before His Time. See Sean Connery Column Opposite Regarding 1967 For Further Detail If So Desired).

This Time The Legal Wrangling Was Under Slightly Different Circumstances.

By 1983 Irish Filmmaker Kevin McClory Had Acquired The Rights To Make A Bond Movie Without Original Bond Producer Chubby Brocolli.

McClory  Legally Maintained That As He Had Previously Helped Ian Fleming (Writer of The Bond Movies) To Develop The Bad Guy Character Ernst Stavro Blofeld In The Book Thunderball In 1961.

Plus It Presented A Chance For Connery To Get Back At Brocolli (Who He Felt Had Done Him Out of Lots of Money).

And So Was Born The So-Called “Battle of The Bonds”. And “Never Say Never Again” Came Out In 1983 With Sean Connery – And  – In The Same Year Octopussy Came Out In 1983 With Roger Moore.
