A Pattern of Erasure By A Book Panel Moderator. A Much Better Author. A Right To Reply Later.
Inspired By An Organic, Unplanned, And Unexpected Series of Book Related Events And Experiences Recently, In Quick Succession, Over The Last Few Weeks And Months In Particular, We Decided To Launch This New Series In Honour of What Has Been An Unforgettable Moment of Growth And Development For Our Magazine.
It Began With An Invitation To An Inaugural Spring Book Fayre At A Local Library At Which We Witnessed First Hand Several Most Blatant Acts of Erasure Committed In Real Time Against A Black Author. The Perpetrator of The Erasure Was Also An Author. And The Event Moderator. Amazingly, Whilst This Moderator’s Skills Were Shockingly Poor By Way of This In-Plain-Sight Behaviour, Their Book (Which We Made A Point of Subsequently Reading, In Order To Gain A Greater Understanding of Their Mindset) Was Excellent. So Good In Fact That It Was Hard To Believe That This-Then-Bad-Actor And The Author Are One And The Same Person.
So Jarring Was This Juxtaposition That We Felt Compelled To Ask Them For An Interview. They Agreed. (More On Which Later In The Series!)
For Now, Suffice To Say People Can Be Different In Person To How They Are On Paper. Sometimes For The Better! Sometimes For The Worse! Sometimes Without Even Realising It.
Confidence Building. Communicating. Community Connections.
Invited To A Number of Different Book Clubs And Book Events Since Then And Having Experienced A Number of Different Takes, Debates And Presentations We Began To Feel New Booksish Inclinations. We Have Reviewed And Written About Books And Book Events Before Now of Course, But Not In Such Quick Succession And With Such Impact.
The Different Personality Types That Attend Book Clubs Can Be Fascinating. And The Debates Can In Turn Be Engaging. They Can Also Facilitate Confidence Building And Improved Vocabulary And Articulation. Plus, Depending How Well The Different Members Get On or Can Tolerate Different Opinions or Personalities To Their Own They Can Also Be Quite The Enjoyable Social Hub.
What’s Not To Love?
Ok, Yeah, Opinionated People, Pressure To Read Yet Another Book Within A Prescribed Time-Period, And A Busy Life Which Demands You Should Probably Be Doing Something Else, Somewhere Else. Especially on A Lovely Summer’s Evening. Your Call. It Could Go Either Way. Hard Landing. Soft Landing. Hardback. Paperback. Hard Launch. Soft Launch. In Or Out. But At Least Please Stick With The First Iteration of Our Debut Page Turner Series For Now.
