Two Days. Two Themes. Two Different Venues Across London!
This Family Friendly, Everyone Welcome, African Festival, Which Represents A Cultural Celebration of Positive Enterprising Sierra Leonean Creatives, Artisans & Intellectuals, Started In 2017. Impressively, This Year It Celebrated Right Across London By Holding The Event At Brixton House Theatre, South London On Saturday November 4th And Then Holding It @Poplar Union The East London Arts Venue, The Very Next Day On Sunday November 5th 2023. As Well As Two Venues This Year’s Event Had To Themes; ‘Re-Introduction’ & ‘Re-Emergence’ And There Presentations & Discussions Around Them.
We Arrived Early @brxhousetheatre And All The Buzz & Excitement Seemed To Be Around Those Setting Up In The Food & Drink Area So We Honed In (Well, That’s Our Excuse Anyway!). Often We Like To Go Where Everyone Else Isn’t (As Following The Crowd Is Not Our Thing). However It Just Looked & Smelt Too Good On This Occassion So We Got Stuck In. Literally!
What Was Notably Different Was The High Quality of Food & Drink & Service On Offer In A Context Such As This ~ A Less Formal, Festival, Fun Event, Where Quantity Not Quality Is Often The Order of The Day. But Here That Was Not The Case. It Was The Exact Opposite.
There Was Only A Small Quantity of Food & Drink Stalls (Namely Three or Four Main Independents) But The Quality Was Out of This World. The Two Main Soft Drink Stalls Were Dealing Only With The Highest Quality Natural Ingredients (Especially Ginger And Sorrell) @CNDDRINKS. Sierra Leone Actress Ellen Thomas Came By And Bought A Couple of Bottles @devamb_konneh_beverages (She Apparently Knows How Good They Are As She Used To Frequent A Cafe In Hammersmith That Sold The Brand). The Food Stall Served Us The Best Food We’ve Had All Year & The Tastiest Vegan Stew Ever In Our Lifes (And We’re Not Even Vegan!). Who Knew One Could Create Such Miracles With Cassava Leaf. Well Afrinape Cuisine ‘@Afrinape’ That’s Who!
And The Piece de Resistence Was Discovering That Fine Delicious Sierra Leonean Food Can Now Be Enjoyed With Fine Delicious Wine From The Food & Drink Studio of Sierra Leonean Chef Maria Bradford. She Is Outstanding As A Fine Dining Chef & An African International Wine Producer. We Give Large Three Cheers To That!

And There Were Special Guests Conducting Studio Presentations Such As Writer & Poet @Yomi_Sode (Whose Play ‘Breathe’ We Reviewed Back In 2021), Rising Comedian @Ibs Sesaye, And Keynote Speaker Foday Dumbuya (Who Comes With Royal Approval) @IamFods.
Plus There Were Artists In The House, Panel Discussions, Short Films & Feature Films. Dance Workshops, And Krio Language Lessons (Here Sierra Leone’s Most Famous Son, Actor, Idris Elba, Tests Nadia Jae On Radio 1 Extra, Back In The Springtime. Like Foday, Idris Also Comes With Royal Approval As A Prince’s Trust Ambassador).
