There Is No Singular Accepted Definition of What Woke Means And No Singular Recognised Person To Give It. It Is Open To Interpretation Depending On Lived Experience or Perspective or Opinion. And Often, A Poltical Point of View.
For Example, In Some Instances Because of Certain Destructive, Negative, Or White Supremacist Views The Word Has Been Abused, Misused And Vilified.
However, In Other Instances People With Lived Experience And People Able To Show Empathy In Certain Circumstances Based On Evidence, To Be Woke Is ‘To Be Awoken By And Awakened To’ The Injustices And Inequites of Systematic Discrimintation, Exclusion, Oppression, Prejudice And Racism. And To Seek Redress That By Establishing Systems And Operations That Are Much More Inclusive, Diverse, Equitable,And Accountable.
Associated With The Concept of Being Woke Therefore Is The Concept of DEI (Diversity, Equity And Inclusion).
DEI Does Not Mean A Lowering of Standards or Preference of One Group Over Another. It Simply Means Giving Relevant Parties A Fair Chance And Recognising That Beauty, Skill, Talent, Qualifications And High Standards Exist In Various Diverse Individuals, Groups And Areas, Not Just Amongst White, Wealthy, Male, Heterosexual, Anglo-Saxons Nor Just Only White People Generally. However Systemic Racism And Casual Racism Has Historically Meant The Black, Brown, Homosexual And Female People Have Been Unfairly And Disproportionatley Discriminated Against.
But DEI Initiatives Have Been Targeted With Hostility Such That This Solution To Racism And Discrimination And Racism Has Been Rejected By The Haters And Oppressors And Those Too Scared To Fight Them. The Effect Therefore Is That Racism, The Original Problem, Now Has A New Problem Because And The Status Quo Not Only Do Not Want To Acknowledge It, It Now Does Not Want To Do Anything About It Even Where It Is Acknowledged. Infact It’s Gone Beyond That By Saying Acknowledging The Problem And Doing Something About It Is Now In And Of Itself Is The Actual Problem, So We Are Going To Attack That New Problem By Eliminating It. This In Turn Multiplies The Original Problem of Racism, Which Is Now Prohibited From Having A Solution. It’s A Double Whammy.
Because Racism Is Often So Underhanded And White Racists Often Lie About Being Racist They Don’t Like To See The Issue of Racism Being Exposed And Talked About Openly. They Say It Makes Them Feel “Uncomfortable”. Well Not Matter How Uncomfortable They Feel, It Is Not As “Uncomfortable” As The Person Being Subjected To Racism.
And There’s Name Calling. For Those Who Have Successfully Proven Their Right To Be Duly Included And Respected For Their Particular Talent, Skill, Expertise or Professionalism, Are Dismissed As Being “A DEI Hire”. This Is A Derisory Term Which Once Again Encompasses The Believe That They Are Only There Due To A Lowering of Standards or Preference of One Group Over Another. It’s Very Similar To The Affirmative Action Accusations When Affirmative Action Was Taken, Again, To Try And Counter The Problem of Racism. At It’s Core This Name Calling Is Assuming That Only White, Wealthy, Male, Heterosexual, Anglo-Saxons Nor Just Only White People Generally.
This Is Important To Note Because It Is Not Only White, Wealthy, Male, Heterosexual, Anglo-Saxons Nor Just Only White People Generally That Make Up Society. Nor That Make Significant Contributions To Society. Nor That Make Signifcant Contributions To The Economy of That Society. If Society Is To Exist In Peace And Harmony It Needs To Reflect And Respect All People Who Contribute Positively To That Society.
The 1955 Bus Boycott In Montgomery Which Last From December 5th To December 20th 1956 Is The Leading Example of This. This Commercial Boycott Was Led By Rosa Parks And Supported By The NAACP (The National Association For The Advancement of Coloured People). When She Died In 2005 Rosa Became The Became The First Black Woman To Be Honoured With A State Funeral, In 1996 She Was Awarded The Presidential Medal of Freedom By President Bill Clinton And February 4th, Her Birthday (Born: 1913) Is Rosa Parks Day In Michigan Her Home State.
It Started The Monday After A Physically Little Lady Called Rosa Parks Made A Legally Big Impact On The World After She Refused To Give Up Her Seat To A White Man, Feeling Too Exhausted After A Long Day of Working In A Department Store, Despite Montgomery’s Racial Segregation Laws. The Supreme Court Would Subsequently Declare Those Laws Unconstitutional. The Bus Company Also Conceeded Because It Lost Millions of Dollars.
The Need For Such Awareness And Redress Was Highlighted By The Outrage Expressed In Many Quarters By The Blatant Exclusion of Cynthia Erivo By A Number of Front Pages On British Newspapers Following The British Premiere of ‘Wicked’ Press Monday November 18 2024.
They Chose To Feature Only A Picture of American Supporting Actress Ariana Grande And Excluded British Lead Actress Cynthia Erivo, Even Though The British London Premiere Was Held In Erivo’s Home Town. London. And Those Papers Could Just As Easily Have Included Both of Them In Their Front Page Photos. And of The Two Actresses Erivo Is The British One.
The Photo Above From The Premiere In Australia Helps Illustrate The Point. As Do Many Other Wonderful Photos of The Two Actresses Together. They Incidentally Are Very Close With One Another And Love Being Together. There Was No Good Reason For Those British Newspapers To Try And Tear Them Asunder.
