TheOrator.Press Online Magazine Extra Coverage TV News & Review Special: The Masked Singer Final ~ February 2022

A Winnin’ Formula

The Masked Singer Is Back For A Fourth Series Next Year According To A Social Media Post By Production Company #Argonon! They Clearly Love The Show Very Much As They Poignantly Tweeted The Announcement on Saint Valentine’s Day Monday February 14th 2022.

This Was Literally Just Hours After The ITV Singin’ Guessin’ Game Concluded The Third Series On Saturday February 12, Havin’ Launched Saturday January 1st  2022, Beginnin’ An 8 Episode Run of This High Glamour, High Production Value, Highly Entertainin’ ,Saturday Night, Family TV Show.

It Was Originally Created For Korean Television And Is Now Francised Around The World, Includin’ In The USA, Where It Is Hosted By Mariah Carey’s Ex Husband Nick Cannon. Here In The UK It Is Produced By TV Production Giant ‘Argonon’ Which Runs A Very Ethics Based Operation. Historically This Is Rather Unique To A Large Television Company. But It’s Values Are Equality, Diversity, And Inclusion.

The Masked Singer Series 3 Host Joel Dommet & The Four Judges, Mo Gillighan, Davina McCall, Rita Ora And Jonathan Ross

The Fun & Challenge Element of Each Episode Is That The Singers Are Dressed Up In Amazin’ Costumes, Each Show Is Themed, They Compete Against Fellow ‘Masked’ Singers By Performerin’ A Song In Character, And They Are On Stage In Front of Millions of Viewers At Home, A Very Excitable, Enthusiastic & Eager Studio Audience And A Panel of Celebrity Judges. For Series Three These Are TV Presenter And Menopause Well-Bein’ Advocate, Davina McCall (DM). Singer Rita Ora (RO). Comedian & Presenter Mo Gilligan (MO). And Chat Show Host & Presenter Jonathan Ross (JR).

The Whole Show Is Kept In Good Runnin’ Order By Host Joel Dommett (JD) Whose Bad Jokes & Playful Puns Are An Ever Present Feature of The Show Which He Clearly Loves.

Glues Are Given As To Who The Singer Is. Some Clues Are More Obvious Than Others. And Some Are ‘Super Fan’ Detail Which Don’t Necessarily Help Out Your Average Joe But Add To The Fun Even So.

The Idea For The Masked Singer Was Developed In Korea. All Masked Singer Photos & Videos Remain The Property of The Masked Singer UK

There Is A Public Vote At The End of Each Performance And The Two Masked Singers With The Lowest Number of Public Votes Compete Against Each Other In ‘A Sing Off’. The Judges, Includin’ Surprise Guest Judges Along The Way, Then Decide Which Masked Singer Performed The Best, Leavin’ The Other One To Unmask Themselves To Chants of “Take It Off! Take It Off! Take It Off! Up To The End of The Series Last Survining Masked Singer Is The Winner. The Prize? Braggin’ Rights.

Even The TV Schedulin’ Is Creative. The Third Series Kicked off On New Year’s Day 2022 As A New Year TV Treat, With Episodes Scattered Across 8 Different Days Over The Next 6 Weeks, With A Live Tour Scheduled To Start Mid-Spring.

The Star of The Show Is Undoubtedly The Costume Design By Plunge Creations. Their Costumes Are Stunnin’ With The ‘Wow Factor’ Each And Everytime! This Year Classical Music & Opera Seemed To Have A Starrin’ Role Too. The Whole Combination Made For A Mind-blowin’ Show.

Singin’ And Then Some…

The Show Is Multi-faceted And One Interestin’ Aspect of It Is The Reasons The Famous Contestants Decide To Take Part In It. Confidence Therapy, Familiar Territory, And Vocal Bravery, All Prove Vital For This Seaon’s Three Finalists Who All Entered The Competition For Different Reasons. They Highlight The Fact That Sometimes Even Established Stars Can Feel The Need To Dig Deeper, Push Themselves Further And Shine Their Star Brighter.

Whilst This Show Provides Good Old Fashioned Family Entertainment, It Does So For A Contemporary Audience. The Simple, Glamourous, Yet Natural, Inclusive, Progressive Feel of The UK Franchise Is What This Spectacular Fun Guessin’ Game Seems To Get Right. It Is A Stellar Example of How Powerful, Pleasurable And Playful Diversity, Equality And Inclusion Can Be.

There Is Good TV. And There Is Bad TV. This Show Appears To Be Happy And Healin’ On A Number of Levels!

Opening The Show

Saturday January 1st 2022

Ep1 of 8/S3

Chandelier Sang Crazy By Patsy Cline But JR Immediately Thought She Was Disguishin’ Her Voice. Mo, Rita & Davina Were Impressed With Quality of Her Voice.

For The First Two Episodes The Show Introduced All 12 of The New Mystery Singin’ Stars Across Two Evenin’ In Two Groups of Six.

Mushroom ~ (Sang: ‘Oh So Quiet’ By Bjork) ~ And ~ Robo Bunny (Sang Saving All My Love For You By Whitney Houston) ~ Which Led To Speculation That This Masked Singer Could Be Either Male or Female

Chandelier * ~ (Sang ‘Crazy’ By Patsy Cline) ~ And ~ Doughnut (Sang ‘Eye of The Tiger’ From ‘Rocky’)

Firework ~ (Sang ‘Domino’ By Jessie J) ~ And ~ Lionfish (Sang ‘Nessun Dorma’ Written By Puccini & Brought To The Masses By Opera Tenor Pavarotti Durin’ The 1990 World Cup)

Rita Remarked of Firework “You Seem Very In Control of Your Body” And Hazereded A Guess At Sporty Spice. Whilst Mo Guessed Said She “Lit Up The Street With A Different Kind of Flash” And Ventured That It Was Michelle Keegan (The Former Coronation Street Actress).

But In The End It Was Chandelier Whose Dreams Were Smashed Into Little Pieces As She Was The First To Be Unmasked. Healther Small, The Singer With The Big Voice And Lead Singer With M People Was Unveiled As The Sparkly Star Behind This Mask. She Can Still Feel Proud For Gettin’ Involved And Givin’ It A Go On This Dazzlin’ Show Even If She Was First Out. That A Doughnut Who Can’t Sing, Beat A Singin’ Supremo Who Has Sung For The Olympics Is Indeed Crazy.

Ep2 of 8/S3

Rock Hopper Rocks It Out

Rock Hopper ~ (Sang ‘Bring Me A Higher Love’ By Kygo Ft. Whitney Houston ) ~ And ~ Traffic Cone ~ (Sang ‘Never Gonna’ Give You Up’ The Evergreen Floor Filler By The Evergreen Rick Astley)

Poodle ~ (Sang ‘Rocket Man’ By Sir Elton John) ~ And ~ Snow Leppard * (Sang Hey ‘Big Spender’ By Dame Shirley Bassey)

Panda ~ (Sang Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitatin’) ~ And ~ Bagpipes (Sang Blur’s ‘Song 2’ Wha~Who!). Panda’s Performance Inspired All Kinds of Guesses Includin’ Scientist, Mathematician & Comedian Dara O’Brien. Vinnie Jones. Paddy McGuiness (Guessed By JR) And Jeremy Clarkson (Guessed By Mo). And There Was Also A Random Guess That Millionaire Space Voyager & Tesla Car Inventor Elon Musk Was Under At Mask At Some Point.

JR Guessed Gloria Hunniford Was Snow Leppard  And He Was Proven Right After She Was Unmasked. Bagpipes Bagged’ The Judges Vote Allowin’ Him To Stay & Fight Another Week. Gloria Did Not Disguish Her Voice As She Spoke Her Way Through The Power Track Rather Than Beltin’ It With The Gusto & Dramatics Associated With Dame Shirley Bassey’s Captivatin’ Performances. Viewers Could Tell Who Was Behind The Mask Pretty Sharpish. Nonetheless Snow Leopard’s Costume Was One of The Most Glamourous.

Episode Three & Well Under Way ~ Saturday  January 8th 2022

Ep3 of 8/S3

Lion Fish Had A Good Start In Episode 1 With Nessun Dorma Without The Oomph But Much Commitment However I Was Not Goin’ To Work For Him Again & He Soon Had To Swim Away To Safer Shores

Robo Bunny: Sang ‘Shallow’ (By Bradley Cooper & Lady Gaga From A Star Is Born)

Doughnut: Sang ‘Spice Up Your Life’ (By The Spice Girls)

Doughnut’s “Shimmy To Left If You’re Havin’ A Good Time” Was A ‘Mo’-ment of Magical Musical Timin’. (…Even If He Never Managed The Same Gusto With His Shimmy To The Right.) It’s Worth Spicin’ Up Your Life And Havin’ A Laugh At The Laughs.

Firework: Sang ‘Fame’ (By Irene Cara From The Kids From Fame)

Mushroom: Sang ‘There Are Worse Things I Could Do’ From The Movie ‘Grease’

(As Sung By Rizzo’ of The Pink Ladies AKA Actress Stockard Channing.) She Gave A Dramatic Heartfelt Performance And Played Up To The Part Endearingly. Whoever Is She!?

Lionfish*: Sang ‘I Will Always Love You’

Lion Fish’s Costume Was One of The Most Spectacular Costumes of The Show And So The Audience Was Primed To Expect Spectacular Things. However Lionfish Held Back On The Powerful Vocals Required To Even Begin To Pull off I Will Always Love You A-La-Whitney Houston. They Paid The Price And Were Duly Unmasked To Reveal Will Young, Who Was, No Doubt Soon Reflectin’ “I Think I Better Leave Right Now.

His Voice Is So Distinctive It’s Easy To See Why He Held Back In Order To Disguise It. But It Probably Wasn’t The Best Strategy Considerin’ The Famous Vocals Associated With Whitney’s Power Ballard. Dolly Parton Who Originally Wrote The Song, Also Recorded A Gentle Country Version, So Maybe He Was Goin’ With That One

Whatever The Reason He Held Back He Will of Course Be Just Fine. Afterall, There Are Plenty More Fish In The Sea!

Panda: Sang ‘Hot Stuff’ (By Donna Summer)

Poodle: Sang ‘What’s New Pussycat’ (By Tom Jones)

This Was A Movin’ Performance From Traffic Cone & Clearly Touched Quite A Few Hearts.

Bagpipes*: Sang ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ (By Wheatus) ~ And ~ ‘I Only Want To Be With You’ (By The Bay City Rollers)

Alas Bagpipes Didn’t Get To Be With Us Anymore As He Was Unmasked As Aussie Tennis Champion Pat Cash Who Managed To Scramble To The Halfway Point of The Show. Rather Like His Groundbreakin’ On Court Celebration When He Won Wimbledon In 1987 And Scrambled Halfway Up The Crowd Seatin’ Area To Be With His Family And Friends. That Was The First Time That Had Ever Been Done. Clearly He’s Still Full of Surprises.

The Competition Gets Tougher ~ Saturday January 22nd 2022

It Was Double Trouble For Doughnut & Firework In The First Double Elimination Special of The Series! British Actress Jamie Winstone & Former Professional Footballer Michael Owen Were Unmasked.

Jamie (36) Said Fireworks Are Designed To Make People Smile. She Made People Smile Not Least of All With Her Post Performance Posts On Instagram (Above @jamiewinstone). And She Made It To The Halfway Point on The Contestant List of 12. She Said She Did It For Her Young Son Ray, Who She Named After His Grandfather, Actor Ray Winstone.

The Mo ‘Mo’-ments And A Buddin’ Bro-mance Between Mr Owen & Mr Gilligan Saw Some of The Best Bits of The Series. Shame About The Singin’. But The Laughs Were Lovely! Owen (42) Later Took To Twitter Sayin’ It Was A Great Experience, Which His Kids “Badgered” Him Into. He Apologised For His Singin’ And Said He Can’t Believe He Made It Past The First Round.

Doughnut Gets Spicey Earlier Durin’ s3 Ep 3

Makin’ It Three Quarters of The Way Through The Show She Hopped Into Fourth Place And Just Missed Out On Reachin’ The Finals. Nobody Guessed Her Identity As Rockhopper, Which Indicates Just How Skilled Her Voice Control & Performance Was.

Later She Said: “I Love Music And To Be Able To Cover Some Of My Favourite Songs Without Judgment Was Awesome.

I Wanted To Challenge Myself And Also How Much Fun I Knew It Would Be.” She Added: “I Was Getting So Much Love From The Panel And Audience And It Made Me So Anxious To Reveal Who I Am. I Was Enjoying Them Throwing Out All Of These Other Amazing Names As Well.”

Decisive Solos

1.Robobunny ~ Sang ‘Run’ (By Leona Lewis). They Vocally Travelled Through At Least 4 Powerful Truly Jaw-Droppin’ Voice Key Changes And Various Musical Styles, Includin’ Soul, Theatre & Operatics. The Crowd Were In Raptures And On Their Feet. The Power & Energy Robobunny Displayed Was As Though They Were Full of Duracell Batteries, Hoppin’ Up & Down Full of Joy, Knowin That They’d Surpassed This Incredible Vocal Challenge That They’d Clearly Bravely Set For Themselves.

3. Mushroom ~ Sang ‘Flower Duet’ (By Leo Delibes) ~ And ~ ‘Stone Cold’ (By Demi Lovato) Again. Ironically Durin’ The First Series of The Masked Singer Charlotte Felt That She Had To Queen Be Because People Kept Postin’ That They Thought It Was Her And Offerin’ Up Their Own Theories.

2. Panda ~ Sang ‘Blank Space’ (By Taylor Swift) ~ And ~ Panda Also Performed ‘The Story of My Life’ (By One Direction) Again. As With The Story of Panda’s Life On This Third Series of The Masked Singer, They Gave a Crowd-Pleasing Performance With Their Dramatic And Powerful Yet Playful Mannerisms And Gestures Used To Accent Particular Musical Moments Within Their Songs. As Well As The Voice, It Was Panda’s Consistent Show of Personality That Shone Through!

Winner !

Natalie Imbruglia, Pop Singer

Panda’s True Identity Was Not Guessed By Anybody. Mo Suggested It Was Rebecca Ferguson But He Was Wrong. Nice Try Though.

Natalie Imbruglia Ultimately Out Foxed’ Everyone. Congratulations & Well Done Her!

She Revealed That Despite Her Success In The Music Industry She Had Suffered Some Hard Knocks Which Knocked Her Creative Confidence Too. And That Takin’ Part In The Masked Singer Was All About Rebuildin’ Her Creative Confidence. Particularly Since Havin A Baby.

Clearly Her Self-Development Strategy Worked Wonderfully.

Havin’ Faced Her Demons & Doubters She Can Power On Stronger Than Ever. And Her Child Will No Doubt That Be Beamin’ With Pride After Their Mum Faced The Music In The Triumphant Way She Did!

First Runner Up

Charlotte Church, Opera Singer

Winner of The Masked Singer Series 2 As Sausage, Guest Judge Joss Stone Is In Awe of World Class Opera Diva Charlotte Church

Judges Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan & Rita Ora Guessed Mushroom’s Identity Correctly.

Former Child Opera Singin’ Star Charlotte Church Has Recently Developed A Love of Gardenin And Nature So The Character Mushroom Suited Her Right Down To The Ground.

She Is Convertin’ The Former Home of Fashion Designer Laura Ashley Into An Eco-Friendly, Carbon Neutral, Wellbein’ Welsh Retreat In Powys. It Will Feature Restoration of An Old Buildin’, Observation of Sensitive Landscape Sittings, New Log Cabins, And Support For The Local Tourist Economy. She Said She Took Part As She Missed Singin’ Havin’ Taken Time off To Raise Her Children.

Second Runner Up

Mark Feehily, Boy Band Member (Westlife)/Pop Singer

Run’ Performed By Robobunny Was Arguably The Best Performance of The Whole Series As Mark Feehily Displayed The Greatest Vocal Development Journey

Judge Rita Ora Eventually Guessed The Former Boy Band Singer’s Identity After Realising It Might Be Her Musical Mate Who Was Makin’ Such Amazin’ Musical Magic.

When Unmasked Feehily Said “I’ve Had A Confidence That I’ve Never Had Before In This Suit And I Think I’ll Take That Home With Me.” And He Also Said He Was Doin’ It For His Little Baby Daughter.

Given The Power, Versatility, Operatic, Soulful And Technical Quality of His Singing Performance Throughout This Musical Extravaganza And Durin’ This Final Solo In Particular. It Demonstrates That He Had The Greatest Musical Growth And Developed The Most Vocally Durin’ His Performances Within The Sow. This Was The Best Individual Performance of The Show. It Was World Class.

That’s The Thing About The Masked Singer, It’s Full of Spectacular Surprises. Both For The Participants And For The Audience!

Considerin’ He Is Not A Classically Trained Opera Singer Mark Feehily’s Operatic Vocals Were Extremely Impressive. So Much So It’s Worth Gettin’ A Little Reflective.

Series 1 ~ Welsh Opera Singer Katherine Jenkins Was Second Runner Up Too! Theatre Singer Jason Manford Was 1st Runner Up. And Former Girl Group Member (Girls Aloud) Nicola Roberts Came First & Won The Show.

Series 2 ~ Former Boy Band Member (JLS) Aston Merryfield Was Second Runner Up, Hip Hop Singer & Brit School Alumnae Ne-yo Was First Runner Up And Soul Singer Jessie Stone Came First & Won The Show.

Series 3 ~ Former Boy Band Member (Westlife) Mark Feehilly Was Second Runner Up, Welsh Opera Singer Charlotte Church Was First Runner Up. And Aussie Pop Singer Natalie Imbruglia Came First & Won The Show.

So Out of The First Three Masked Singer Finals Ever There Were Three Operatic Performances. (Katherine Jenkins (s1), Classically Trained, Welsh. Charlotte Church (s3), Classically Trained, Welsh. And Mark Feehilly (s3), Boy Band Trained, Irish). Interestin’! Also In The Same Series Welsh Opera Singer, Aled Jones Made It Two Thirds of The Way In The Competition. And Will Young Started Strong With Pavarotti’s Nessun Dorma. There Is A Cool Vibe Goin’ On With Opera.

Finalists In S.2 Collectively Represented The R&B, Hip Hop & Soul Music Genre.

And S1 Proved From Day 1, That Serious Singin’ Talent Is To Be Found Amongst Members of A Girl Band. That Series Was Won By Nicole Roberts of Girls Aloud. In Fact Girl Band & Boy Band Members Have Reached Every Final Out of The Three In The UK!

And There’s More…

At The End of The Show It Was Announced That The Masked Singer’s Sister Show, (Which Launched Last Summer) ‘ The Masked Dancer ‘ Will Be Back Again This Summer.

And Some Say The Latter Is Even Better Than The Former. Fun & Games!

Either Way, Both Series (The Masked Singer & The Masked Dancer) Are Available To Watch On ITV Hub.
